Bigger cash prizes await Kadayawan event winners

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said on Friday the City Government has allocated some P6 million for the cash prizes of various competitions slated during the celebration of the 27th Kadayawan sa Dabaw.

Duterte-Carpio, during the festival’s formal opening at the People’s Park on Friday, also said bigger cash prizes will also be given to winners of the City Government’s sports festival.

“Dako-dako pud ang gigahin para sa sportsfest (A bigger budget will also be allocated for the sportfest),” she said.[Read more]

Kadayawan to bring bigger impact to city’s tourism

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said on Friday that this year’s staging of Kadayawan sa Dabaw is expected to bring bigger impact in the promotion of city’s tourism.

At the opening of the 27th Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival at the People’s Park, Duterte-Carpio said the month-long celebration has drawn so much attention from the visitors, which may result to the influx of more tourists who will join the celebration.

“People really go to places where there’s festival like this one, which is unique to Davao,” she said.[Read more]

Mayor: Rebels welcome to join Kadayawan

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio invited anew members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) to join the celebration of the 27th Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival.

In an interview at the festival’s opening program Friday, Duterte-Carpio said the call for peace is always there “so the communist rebels are welcome to come down from the mountains and join us during the festivities.”

“If they want peace during the month-long celebration of Kadayawan, then they are welcome to join us here,” Duterte said.[Read more]

6-ton ‘Bounty Basket’ is Philippines’ biggest

THE Bounty Basket, a huge basket that highlighted the opening of 27th Kadayawan festival, weighed more than six tons of mixed native agricultural products, a city official said on Friday.

Leonardo Avila III, City Agriculturist Office (CAO) officer-in-charge, during the opening of the 27th Kadayawan sa Dabaw, said the Bounty Basket is said to be the biggest in the country so far, which needed three trucks and six multicabs of fruits and vegetables.

Comprising the fruits inside the gigantic basket were five varieties of coconut, six varieties of bananas, three varieties of “rambutan,” two varieties of avocado, three varieties of pineapples, two varieties of “santol”, mangosteen, mangoes and jackfruits.[Read more]

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Friday announced that the local government has increased the prizes for this year’s Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan.

In the opening of 27th Kadayawan Festival at the People’s Park Friday, Duterte-Carpio said bigger cash prizes await winning groups.

For the open category, the mayor said the grand champion will receive a whopping P500,000, up by P200,000 from last year’s P300,000. For the second placer, the winning team will receive P400,000, an increase of P200,000 from P200,000 a year earlier.[Read more]
