‘Araw’ cycling challenge circuit unreels March 17

EIGHT teams are set to compete in the Mayor Inday Sara Duterte & Vice Mayor Rody Duterte Invitational Cycling Challenge Circuit Race that will unreel on March 17 in an out-and-back course from Shrine Hills in Matina.

Philcycling vice-president for Mindanao Salvador “Jun” Paholio, Jr., yesterday said Team Inday Sara will field two teams while Butuan City, Bukidnon, M’lang of North Cotabato are also expected to see action.

Cansino, Amazona bag ‘Araw' tennis titles

DAVAO City’s Juan Paolo Cansino and Davao Oriental’s Jeleardo Amazona lived up to their billing by bagging titles at the close of the 1st leg Slazenger-Mayor Inday Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte Araw ng Dabaw Age-Group Tennis Championships at the GSIS Heights Tennis Club over the weekend.

Cansino crushed Elvie Lopez, Jr. of the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), 10-3, in their boys 18-under finals while Amazona also won on the same note over Tadeco netter Reagan Sorima for the boys 16-under.

Igacos bet Lenelyn Milo ruled the girls 18-under event by whipping Genevib Caorte of Davao City, 10-3, while Kidapawan City’s Jzash Canja overhelmed host city’s Jenni Celine Dizon, 10-4, in their girls 16-under titular showdown.

Khrizzan Dumlao, for her part, spanked fellow Sto. Tomas player Rosvel Anne Binondo, 10-6, in girls 14-under while Gil Molina walloped fellow Tadeco bet Laster Llandino, 10-3, in the boys’ division.

Meet the 'Mutya' 12 semi-finalists

GMA Network, Inc., the City Government’s strategic partner for the creative execution of this year’s search for Mutya ng Dabaw, is all set for Monday’s Pre-Pageant and Talent Night, where five finalists will be chosen from among the 12 semi-finalists.

The event will be held at SM City Davao Event Center, starting at 5 p.m. and will be hosted by Kapuso actor Victor Aliwalas and Mutya ng Dabaw 2009 Resci Rizada.

Grand celebration for 75th 'Araw'

FOR the first time, Davao City will commemorate its founding anniversary this year with a series of activities that will run for over a month than the usual practice of week-long festivities.

Rightly so, the city will be celebrating its diamond fiesta — the 75th Araw ng Dabaw celebration which local officials vowed to be more colorful and exciting for the Dabawenyos and the visitors to savor.

There a total of 36 activites lined up for this year’s celebration, which has a theme “Paghigugma sa nasud, pag-amuma sa siyudad (Love for the country, care for the city).

Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio said she used the theme to put more great emphasis on highlighting the unique qualities of the people of Davao in all the activities prepared by the city.

Araw ng Dabaw blog competition

ASIDE from video contest, there is also a blog competition for bloggers and netizens part of the incoming activities for the 75th Araw ng Dabaw.

The competition is open to all bloggers 18 years old and above. Limit of one entry per household.

Duaw Dabaw still looking for pledges, sponsorship

THE private partner of the Davao City government in organizing this year’s Araw ng Dabaw, which is set to handle most of the private sector initiated activities this year, admitted to have encountered difficulties in finding pledges and sponsorship across the country.

Lizette Marquez, festival director of Duaw Davao Festival Foundation Inc., recently told reporters that as of last week, they are still seeking pledges from companies across the country to finance various activities they will organize in time for the city’s 75th Founding Anniversary.

City, GMA partner for Mutya search

THE City Government of Davao, through Duaw Davao Festival Foundation, has partnered with GMA Network, Inc. in this year’s search for Mutya ng Dabaw in time for the city’s 75th Founding Anniversary on March 16.

Oliver Amoroso, assistant vice president for sales and marketing of GMA Regional TV, said the Kapuso Network was chosen by the city as its “strategic partner in the creative execution” of the annual beauty and brains search.

He said the network is elated to take the challenge of leveling up the prestigious search in time for the city’s Diamond Year.

“We will make this year’s Mutya ng Dabaw search the grandest, most entertaining and most impressive to date. This is our way of showing that we are fully committed to serve our regional audience by becoming a medium to showcase the beauty and positive spirit of the Dabawenyos to the world,” Amoroso said.
